Oh how I wish there was a way to know what is going through the heads of these four girls of ours. They very often are testing out words and phrases these days that leave me in stitches.... and sometimes scratching my head trying to determine where in the world the word or phrase originated.

This afternoon we were all working away together on cleaning up the disaster area play porch. It wasn't quite warm enough to be outside, so we were doing the next best thing by soaking up the sunshine we could through the windows.

I had tasked my little army with sorting the toys into the major categories, which for us includes baby dolls and supplies, dress up attire, musical instruments, and play kitchen food and accessories. All the other stuff goes into smaller bins. The girls are quite good at sorting like with like, but at no point did I have all four of them working at the same time. In fact, they were more often than not working against each other.

Sarah came barrelling over to me with two hands full of baby supplies which she was obviously intending to use on the baby under her arm. She had a sad look on her face as she said, "Please don't crush my hopes mom." I said, "Excuse me, what?" thinking I had simply misunderstood her. She continued, "Why are you crushing my hopes by putting all these baby things away?"

I was completely unable to explain to her that toys that are put away but still accessible in no way constitute crushed hopes.... heck, nothing in her life to this point constitutes "crushed hope" that I can imagine. So now I'm on a mission to determine what book or movie of late contains this dramatic little phrase. I've racked my brain all day and come up with nothing. Anybody have any ideas?? I'll be sure to post an update if I ever figure it out.

I can so relate to this post! I often wonder where some of the words or phrases that my 3 will say come from...and I am surprised at some of the phrases. :)

Let me know what happens with the dance lessons. My girls love it!

I have no idea about the phrase! but wanted to say I'm so glad you're back to regular blogging. I've missed keeping up with you and your brood. :)

Your girls strike me as having quite an expansive vocabulary for their age. You must be a very proud mama! :)

Hi, I'm coming out of lurking to say that your girls really are precious! My girl is only 14 months old, and already showing a percocious personality--can't imagine what she'll come up with when she starts talking!!
