Dear Ella

This afternoon my dear, sweet Ella looked me in the eyes after I had spent the previous 30 minutes trying to convince her that she needed to nap, (she had dark circles under her little eyes, for Heaven's sake) and she said, " Mom, I'm afraid that there is nothing that I can do to make myself sleep, and there is nothing that you can do to help me sleep." End of discussion... I gave up. She is not 3 years old yet; I thought all kids needed naps until they were 3, at least?!? I eventually put on a video and she fell asleep on the couch about 45 minutes before the trio awoke from their 3 hour afternoon nap. As usual, they all immediately started yelling for Ella to come and play. I managed to keep them in their room for about 15 minutes more before I heard Ella fall off the couch in the living room. When I went to check on her, apparently I didn't close their door all the way because they all spilled into the room to "greet" her with joy! She, however, was not overjoyed to see them... or anybody for that matter. I am struggling here. Do those dark circles mean that she still needs a nap, or what?

I dunno MB! Sounds like she still needs a nap. I'm not there yet, but could she stating her independence? What if you gave her some "quiet time" in her room where she knows that she has to stay in her room but she can play, sleep or whatever. That way, you still get a break too and she feels like she has some control over what she does. Hve NO idea if it will work, but maybe she'll be more inclined to sleep if she's not being made to. Good luck! Let me know what happens...it will be good knowledge for the future over here. :)

MB,

Poor Baby. She definitely needs a nap. It's really hard on the Mommy when they decide that they don't.

We are struggling with nap time here too. I need their nap more than they think they do these days. So far, they still take one, but I know it's coming to an end, and I'm so dreading it.
